Free CV anonymiser for recruiters
Upload a candidate’s CV as a PDF. Their name and everything that leads to them comes off. Everything that shows they can do the job stays, as they wrote it.
- Removed their name and contact details — the client cannot go direct
- Otherwise their CV as they sent it
Up to 3 CVs a day, PDF only. Hamrr takes off what lets a client contact the candidate, and leaves the rest.
What comes off
- Their name, in any form: full, first or last on its own, initials, or inside a link
- Email addresses and phone numbers
- LinkedIn, GitHub and personal website links
- Their home address, anything more precise than the town
- Their photo
- Date of birth, age and ID numbers
- Referees and their contact details
What stays
Everything the client needs to judge the match: job titles, employers and dates, results, skills, qualifications, the town or country they’re based in, right to work and notice period. The layout stays as the candidate made it, so the CV still reads as theirs.
Removed, not covered
A black box drawn over a phone number still leaves the number in the file, where anyone can copy it out. Here the details are deleted from the PDF itself, so there’s nothing underneath to find. It’s still worth one last check before you send it: open the copy and search it for the candidate’s surname.
How to use it
Add their name
Type it as it’s written on the CV, so every form of it comes off.
Upload the PDF
Tick the box to confirm you have the candidate’s permission, then press Make client-safe.
Check and download
Compare their CV with what the client would get, then download the anonymised PDF.
The free tool takes one PDF at a time, up to 5 MB and 6 pages. A scanned CV with no selectable text won’t work. Save a Word CV as a PDF first.
A whole shortlist, client-safe at once.
In Hamrr, every CV on the shortlist comes back client-safe in one press, ready for the submission and for any spec email Hunt drafts later.
- Takes the details off every CV on the shortlist
- Drafts a cover sheet for each candidate from your notes, the opinion still yours
- Drafts your shortlist email with the CVs attached as one zip
Questions
Is the CV anonymiser free?
Yes. You can anonymise up to 3 CVs a day with no account. To do every CV on a shortlist at once, start a free 7-day trial of Hamrr.
Do you keep the CV?
No. The CV is read, anonymised and handed back to you in the same step. Nothing is saved, and the only record is a count of how many details came off.
Can I anonymise a Word CV?
Save it as a PDF first, then upload the PDF. The free tool takes PDFs up to 5 MB and 6 pages. A scanned CV with no selectable text won't work.
Is an anonymised CV the same as a blind CV?
Mostly. Recruiters anonymise a CV so the client has to come through them to meet the candidate. Blind recruitment also hides details that could bias a decision. This tool takes off the name, contact details, address, photo, date of birth and age, but it keeps employers, universities and dates, so check the result against your own policy.
Do I need the candidate's permission?
Yes. Get the candidate's OK before you process their CV, and again before it goes to a client, naming the company and the role.
